      Born in India in 1952, Dr. Vandana Shiva is a world-renowned environmental leader, physicist, and feminist. She is the author of many books, including WATER WARS: POLLUTION, PROFITS, AND PRIVATIZATION, BIOPIRACY: THE PLUNDER OF NATURE AND KNOWLEDGE, MONOCULTURES OF THE MIND, and THE VIOLENCE OF THE GREEN REVOLUTION.

      In 1993, Dr. Shiva was the recipient of the Right Livelihood Award, commonly known as the "Alternative Nobel Prize." Shiva is a leader in the International Forum on Globalization.

      Dr. Shiva is director of the Research Foundation for Science, Technology, and Ecology, an independent public industry research group based in New Delhi. She also established Navdanya, a movement for biodiversity conservation and farmers’ rights in India. For more information, contact: www.vshiva.net.

      In this address, Dr. Shiva talks about the threats to planetary survival posed by corporate globalization. She debunks the myths of so-called "free trade" and reveals it’s unfair nature as multinational corporations seek to gain monopoly control over food, water, and medicine through the World Trade Organization. She offers a vision of a future based on sustainable ecological development and grassroots empowerment.
